Home Sweet Home Mini Book

Hello everyone! I hope your weekend was a good one. My parents visited and we did a lot of fun activities; visited an outdoor museum which has animals, and took walks, among other things. Anton also got to learn how to make a ceramic bowl, on one of those tables that turn around and around. We are looking forward to picking it up after it has been burned to see how it turned out.

This week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge our theme is Home Sweet Home.  Don't miss the project by our May guest designer Dr Sonia, aka Cards, Crafts, Kids Projects.

When I was thinking about the theme, I got the idea of making a mini album documenting all the homes in which I have lived, nine in total so far, on two continents. I still need to have the photos printed (I don't print my photos at home), so the album is not completely finished yet. I plan to add outdoors and some indoor photos of each place, as well as journaling. As my base, I used Tim Holtz's Chronicle Worn Cover, which is larger (9 x 6.5 in) than the other worn covers. I had fun decorating it.

To change the background, I used Tim's Bricked Stencil and Dina Wakley's lovely Rosy metallic paint. I avoided the framed circle.

There had to be some stamping on the cover, and I used number stamps, an address stamp, a date background, birds and a compass.

To embellish my cover, I die cut a small globe, and houses from Cityscape SuburbiaCityscape Metropolis, and the Snowglobe sets from Heavyweight paper, as well as clouds from white wool felt. They paper die cuts were coated with Matte Medium, and I also applied Crazing Medium here and there.

Then I coloured all of them with Distress Crayons.

The globe fits perfectly in the circle frame on the cover. I glued everything down with Matte Medium, since it both sticks very well and doesn't show.

As a base for the houses, I used a piece of Design Tape with numbers and applied a little Matte Medium underneath to make sure it is stuck down well.

The Crazing Medium gives great texture to the houses.

I die cut my title from white mat board using the Deco Alpha die. I really like this font. The letters were painted red and stamped with a text stamp. Then I coated them with a layer of Glossy Accents.

I added some metallic embellishments too, such as this globe. The hearts were done in the same way as the title letters.

I like to mix different textures, and the wool felt, glossy hearts, and crackled houses and globe look fun together.

A little Mermaid Lagoon paint was rubbed into the lock.

I also added some air mail arrows in Design Tape form.

The ring binder was tied with a piece of Linen Ribbon, and I added a key to it.

Here is the back, kept simple with just the bricks and some stamping.

For the inside, I prepared all the pages, so that I can just add photos. I used Tim's Large Assorted Page Pockets. There are three different types of protectors in the pack with great sizes: 3 x 4, 2 x 3 and 3 x 3, as well as a couple of thinner strips here and there. I mainly used Tim's 8 x 8 in paper pads and if you cut the papers cleverly, you can basically use every piece of each paper.

I used one pack of page protectors here, but I need to get a second one to add to the album. I was also out of the large ring binders, and will buy them instead, since the thin one you see here will be too small, once all the pages and photos are in the album.

The Zebra strip by Graphic 45 was a left-over from another project, the rest of the papers are all by Tim. I will add stamping to the inside pages, once I have the photos.

I picked a mix of neutral, number, postage, travel and map themed papers.

You can also alter the inside covers. I stenciled the pretty Floral stencil and added some stamping. I might add journaling later.

  5. What a cool idea to make an album with homes you have lived! This made me count my homes cause I have never thought about this. Not so many as yours, four only. You won :-) I love the cover a lot. The little houses are great and the font of HOMES is really amazing, I love how you made it shine. Hugs, Marzena

  8. This is such a great idea Anna-Karin. A cool book with tons of inspiration. I want to make a travel journal for our road trip this summer. We will be traveling through 4 Provinces so I'd like to make a journal depicting each Province with ample place to write each day so I can scrap book everything at a later date. This really inspires me! TFS!

  9. Your album is amazing! I love all the layering and details you do to each element, not only the overall album. The stamping on the die cuts, the colouring over the mediums and the beautiful finishes to embellishments to make them unique. The pretty mix of patterned papers for the pages are beautiful in themselves before even being trimmed. Thank you so much for sharing so many awesome ideas! :)

  10. This is a beautiful piece and I am so impressed at how you incorporated the design that was already on your album cover-- like how you fit the globe perfectly into the circle that was there. You always integrate things so wonderfully!
